Plantarfasciitis is a very common foot disorder. Dr. Bock describes a mininmally invasive surgical method.

Dr. Bock, head of the foot and ankle team at the Orthopaedic hospital Speising, is interviewed about new methods on how to operate on hallux valgus deformity with resorbable screws. Dr. Bock talks about on the advantages of those screws and when they can be applied.

Dr. Bock is answering a patients question. Most likely the patient suffers from a beginning plantar fasciitis.  

More and more often screws made of Sugar (Polylactate) and Magnesium are applied for foot surgeries, especially for the correction of hallux valgus. In contrast to metal screws those screws are biodegradable and are integrated into the bone.

A scientific examination found out that Magnesium and Polylactate screws are good options for foot surgery.

The biodegradable screws dissolve after about one year after implantation and are integrated into the bone. A following surgery to remove the screws is thus not necessary.

Cartilage lesions within the ankle joint are often caused by multiple small injuries. Very often an instability of the ankle joint plays an important role. Dr. Bock describes different treatment options according to the degree of the injury.

Insoles are very efficient with the treatment of foot pain. There are different kinds of insoles. Dr. Peter Bock talks in his interview with the ORF about the different indications for insoles and when to apply which kind of insoles. Dr. Bock especially talks about podologic insoles.

A wrong step, an unfortunate hard landing and the ankle is sprained. Now the right treatment algorithm is important. In the acute phase it ist he P.R.I.C.E protocol (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) which is indicated.

Dr. Peter Bock talks about a surgical method to treat persistent complaints in the area of the ball of the foot (metatarsalgia) if insoles do not help. During this surgery a burr is used in order elevate the painful head of the metatarsal head. The surgery is performed via a little skin incision. After the surgery the patient is allowed immediate weight bearing with a special shoe.

In order to cure cartilage lesions within the ankle joint, pluripotent cells are taken from the iliac bone crest and implanted into the ankle joint.
