Overlapping Toes
A special form of hammertoes are overlapping toes. They can create serious foot pain and discomfort. The reason for the appearance of this malformation is most often an imbalance in the lesser toe joints with luxation of the toe.
Most often overlapping toes are caused by, and accompanied by a hallux valgus deformity which has to be treated at the same time.
Realignment can be achieved by various surgical methods such as tendon transfers and osteotomies and fixation of the toe with a resorbable pin. In milder cases minimally invasive surgery with little skin incisions is possible.
