Hip and Knee
About Hip and Knee
The hip and knee joints are the two biggest joints of the human body. The hip joint serves as the connection between the pelvis and the legs. It stabilizes the body by retaining balance both when standing (static posture) and moving (dynamic position). The hip joint, a ball-like joint, is formed by the round head of the femur and the cup-like acetabulum of the pelvic bone. This bone-and-socket joint, secured by ligaments and muscles further connecting the femur with the pelvic bone, enables motion in all three planes.
The knee is the largest joint of the human body and one of the most complex ones. The knee is composed of two joints: the joint between patella, the kneecap, and the femur and the joint between the tibia and the femur. Each joint can be the source of pain. The knee is stabilized by ligaments (collateral ligaments, cruciate ligaments) and surrounding muscles. My expertise as orthopedic doctor is to find the source of your pain – meniscal tear, cartilage problem, cruciate ligament, arthritis, plica - and provide the right therapy. Most knee surgeries can be done by arthroscopy.
